The project SiMaKon - Simulation von Maßbekleidung und Konfektion online zur Passformkontrolle (in English: Simulation of Made-to-measure and Ready-made Clothing Online for Fit Checking) - aims at the realisation of a novel, interactive system to support the retail of apparel via the Internet. An essential part is a highly realistic, physically correct, three-dimensional try-on simulation. It clothes customized avatars constituting virtual copies of real customers, with clothing that is based on real production clothing patterns.
On the one hand, the system provides customers with a reliable fit checking, on the other hand, an evaluation of the optical appearance of the clothes on their virtual counterpart is possible. This functionality is accessible via current Internet browsers. The system is also advantageous for disabled customers, who are limited in their mobility. They can avoid the real try-on in a store which is often troublesome for them. In addition, the system concept sets great value on criteria like usability and shopping experience in the context of a particular Internet shop.

Sommer 2010 - Projektabschluss und zukünftige Entwicklung
Im Sommer 2010 ist der Förderungszeitraum des Projektes SiMaKon ausgelaufen. Wir haben das Projekt erfolgreich abgeschlossen und die gesetzten Ziele weitestgehend erreicht. Das SiMaKon-System wird im Projekt KAvaCo (Kundenindividuelle, humanoide Avatare im E-Commerce) weiterverwendet und in diesem Rahmen auch an neue Anforderungen angepasst. Das KAvaCo-Team ist daher auch Ansprechpartner für Anfragen rund um die Virtuelle Anprobe.
